We are the Southside Virginia Jazz Society located in Clarksville, Virginia. Our aim is to enrich the lives of others with a musical experience through Jazz. We will bring local Jazz information to you, by posting upcoming events and providing links to regional Jazz sites. Visit again soon as our calendar is always changing to accommodate those interested in Jazz.

Jazz by the Lake to bring Richmond, Nashville, N.C. musicians to Clarksville

Richmond drummer Kip Williams and his trio featuring Michael Hawkins, one of the most highly regarded bassists on the East Coast, will headline the 5th annual Jazz by the Lake Festival, noon to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16th, at the lakeside amphitheater in Occoneechee State Park.

Also featured will be trumpeter and jazz harmonica virtuoso Bill Joor, who performs primarily in Las Vegas and Nashville. He has played with greats from many musical genres, including Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson, and Asleep at the Wheel.

Seven premier high school jazz groups from Virginia and North Carolina will take the stage along with professional headliners.

The musicians will perform in a lakeside amphitheater overlooking Buggs Island Lake.

The park rents campsites and contemporary cabins with views of the lake.
It is located .2 of a mile east of Clarksville, Virginia’s only lakeside town, where visitors enjoy small town charm with a variety of shops, restaurants, motels, and elegant Victorian B&Bs.

THE SCHEDULE IS OUT FOR THE 2009 "JAZZ BY THE LAKE" FESTIVAL
The Jazz by The Lake Festival will be held on Saturday, May 16th from 12 noon until dark (Approx. 8:30 p.m.)

Introductions and welcome by Rep.Tom Pieriello - 12 noon

Sounds of Baskerville -- Smooth Jazz with Gil Baskerville on Woodwinds- 12:30pm

Northern Vance County High School combined band (Henderson ,NC) - 1:30pm

Southern Vance County High School (Henderson, NC) - 2:30pm

Appomatox High School Jazz Ensemble (Appomatox, VA) - 3:30pm

Martinsville High School Jazz Band(Martinsville, VA) - 4:30pm

J.F. Webb High School (Oxford, NC) - 5:30pm

Bluestone High School (Skipwith, VA) - 6:30pm

Kip Williams Trio (Richmond) Recording Star - 7:15pm

Bill Joor - Trumpet and Jazz Harmonica (formerly with the group "Asleep At the Wheel"

There will be a closing Jam Session following the scheduled events .

" The Jazz By The LakeFestival " held each year in the amphitheatre at Occoneechee State Park, Us Rt. 58 East, Clarksville,VA is now officially
connected to The VA State Park System - All donations and grant monies
will be forwarded to Va Association for Parks (VAFP to be distributed
